Nirvana is the original band of the United States that appears at the end of the 1980s and the successful rock music alternative to mainstream rock stage.
They consist of Kurt Cobain (vocal, guitar), Krist Novoselic (bass) and Dave Grohl (drums) and record the album via the Seattle independent label, Sub Pop in 1989.
Then, assisted by Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, they have a contract from DGC Records, owned by David Geffen in 1990. Through this major label, released their second album, Nevermind, in September 1991 and succeeded in occupying the position no. 1 on the chart. Nevermind is a combination of elements of punk and alternative rock is considered a new genre called grunge.
At the peak their famous, Kurt Cobain is seen as an interpreter speaking generation X, even though He did’nt like the nickname.
The second studio album, In Utero, released in 1993 and re-position Billboard top, but popularity does not equal Nevermind.
Nirvana is a short career. Band ended after Cobain killed himself with a rifle in 1994, after experiencing serious depression and heroin addicted.
Although already disbanded, Nirvana's popularity continues to increase until the coming years. Globally, Nirvana has sold more than 50 million units and the album Nevermind is one of the 100 most in demand throughout the album in the list of the Recording Industry Association of America.
